About Spotted Bass

The spotted bass, sometimes called the Kentucky bass, bridges the gap between largemouth and smallmouth bass in both appearance and behavior. These fish are increasingly popular in tournament circuits, especially in deep clear reservoirs of the Southeast. Spotted bass are schooling fish that often suspend over deep structure, making them a unique challenge for tournament anglers.

Habitat & Environment

Deep, clear reservoirs and flowing streams. Prefer rocky bluffs, deep points, and current areas. More tolerant of current than largemouth bass.

World Record

11 lbs 4 oz (Nick Dulleck, Pine Flat Lake, CA, 2001)

Did You Know?

Spotted bass can hybridize with both largemouth and smallmouth bass, creating fish that are sometimes difficult to identify in the field.
