The red drum, commonly known as redfish, is the premier inshore saltwater game fish of the Gulf Coast and Southeast Atlantic. These copper-colored beauties are known for their powerful runs and tail-walking displays. Redfish tournaments are among the most popular saltwater events in America, with a thriving competitive scene from Texas to the Carolinas. Sight-fishing for tailing redfish in shallow flats is one of the most exciting experiences in all of fishing.
Shallow coastal waters, estuaries, marshes, grass flats, and oyster bars. Prefer water temperatures between 65-85°F. Found in both brackish and full saltwater environments.

The distinctive black spot near the redfish's tail is thought to confuse predators into attacking the tail instead of the head, giving the redfish a chance to escape.
