Originally from Europe, the brown trout has become one of the most challenging and rewarding game fish in American waters. Brown trout are notoriously wary and difficult to catch, especially large specimens that become almost entirely nocturnal feeders. They are the ultimate quarry for skilled fly anglers and trophy hunters. Large brown trout are apex predators that feed on other fish, crayfish, and even small mammals.
Cold to cool streams, rivers, and lakes. More tolerant of warmer and murkier water than other trout species. Prefer undercut banks, deep pools, and areas with overhead cover.

Brown trout were first introduced to North America in 1883 when 80,000 eggs were shipped from Germany to a hatchery in New York.
